my clay animation

As the teacher has suggest us at class , we should experiment everything we want when we are student. Thinking of that I try to do a thing that I always want : clay animation .

This is a very short clip that I have made, it’s only 30s and even don’t have a story ) I did it in about 1 hour making the clay doll and take picture of it on my floor, then about another 1 hour to edit the picture and make the video. Humh, I’m myself not sastisfied with this video yet. Maybe next time I will put more efford and time to make a longer and nicer video of clay animation. ^^ Thank you !!

Kakai kiki

If you want to be a multimedia designer, I’m sure at least you have once heard about a Japanese contemporary artist / designer named Takashi Murakami. Murakami is not only considered as one of the most significant artist in 1990s but also famous his successful designs, for example, his advert and 5,000 USD bags for LV, or his illustrations in CD cover of Kanye West’s graduation album… Remember the example we have been shown in Dim1, an impressive short animation of Takashi murakami? I have found the video on youtube and bring it here for you ^^

However, in this entry, I don’t want to talk about Takashi anymore, because he has been too popular. This time, I want to introduce two other great Japanese artist related to Takashi Murakami. In fact, TK has formed a company in Japan, which called “kakaikiki”, you can see more information about this company in their official website here . Kakai kiki was built in order to find out talented Japanese artist at all age, so that the company can promote them internationally. Besides to Takashi Murakami, there are 6 other artists who are really important in Kakai Kiki. Among those 6 people, my most favorite is Aya Takano. Example of her artworks:

Aya Takano is not only wellknown in Japan but all over the world. She has hold exhibitions in many countries, here is one video clip I found that recorded her exhibition in Barcelona :

Well you can see all characters in her works are young girls, and they often appear naked. But with her manga-drawing style, people do not have bad impression, but when looking at the works, usually we find more things the artist wants to deliver than nudity or sex. All her works are done by hand and giving people different ways of understanding them. Firstly, the meanings of the pictures, is reflecting female thoughts in Japanese contemporary society, where flooded with bad things and crimes. Secondly, the artist express her dream land , that all people want to reach, a land that only exists in imagination.

The interesting part in the way Kakai kiki artists expressing their artworks is that, all their paintings are drawn in manga-style. There are 2 reasons for doing so: because using cute-characters/scenes will helps the ideas of the paintings easier to reach people mind, when ideas reflecting dark world, this will make people do not feel too gloomy emotions.

Well , these are only my own idea, when you look at her artworks, you may have your own thoughts or comments. However, undoubtedly, Aya Takano is one of the best artist in Japanese contemporary art at the moment, and her works, whatever you think they are, good or bad, dark or pure, you like them or not, usually people can not avoid but to be attracted by them.

Trang illustrations

Trang is my best friend, also a very talented and promising illustrator, so it’s obvious that I should make an entry to introduce her.

Only with pencil and paper , as an self-taught illustrator, she always makes me amazed and surprised with how she can express her feeling in her illustrations. Of course her artworks are not really professional-looking, because she’s still a student, but we can clearly see unique style and emotion in the pictures, and that’s what an illustrator needs the most. These are my idea only, you sure can have diffirent thoughts and give comments about her works.

work based on lesson at class :P

In the first Photoshop lesson at class, teacher had taught us how to create a dominance in the picture by changing the saturation and using history brush tool. I try to practice it in my photo by doing exactly the same way. So here is my result.

Step 1 : Choose a picture

Step 2 : Change the color balance in order to make the cigarettes’s heart more red

Step 3: Change the saturation lever to -100

Step 4: Use the History brush tool to make 1 cigarette color back to original and stand out of the picture

Step 5: Crop & Finish: Type a simple sentence ” Where is your true love?” to discribe the meaning and also create the balance in the picture. The cigarette’s name is 520 , which sound like ” I love you” in Chinese. So, many people also call this cigarette “love” , therefore the word “love” in my image has 2 meanings : the cigarette, and the real love.

Well, this song has originally been written and sung by Taylor Swift, its name is “our song”.

Even though I made some mistake and it lead to distortion at the end of the song, still hope that you will find it’s ok !

5 principles of design exercise

As an exercise after study 5 principles of design, we have to take photos demonstrate what we understand about the principles, so here they are my results ^_____^

1. Balance – radial symmetry

2. Dominance : the flower :”> I used macro effect when taking this picture so that we can clearly see the dominant and blur sub-dominant/subordinate.

3. Proportion : well, I think it’s easy to find proportion but hard to express it clearly in the photo without drawing the “line” to explain like our examples at class. ^^

Temple of literature

This is my first attemp tracing something in flash ^^ I hope you will not find it too ugly ) .

This scene is the gate to get into the temple of literature – “Van mieu”, a very famous sightseeing in vietnam . And yeh, it’s in Hanoi, the capital , also my hometown ^^ Besides to tourists, Hanoi students also often come to this place when they want to wish for something related to studying, like their exam results.   

This is the link to the real photo, which I found on the internet. Well, you can find my picture is different from the real one because I have scaled it before tracing so that the final picture can be 800×600 as required.

 I think the hardest part is to make the picture looks real and add shadow to it. I can add the shadow, but personally speaking haven’t been really satisfied with the final result.

After the dim2 class about design rules on Tuesday, I’ve tried to clear 3 part in my picture : the dominant ( the gate) ,  sub-dominant (the tree ), and the subordinate ( tree behind and the temple far away ) .

My first entry

Hi there ~ 

This is my illustration ^^

It’s been drawn about a year ago. I draw a lot of pictures, but this one is my favourite, so I decided to post it as my first entry.

I love drawing people and ordinary things in comic style. When looking at everyday objects, i can find inspiration and desire to represent them in my own way. Sometimes I photograph the scenes, sometimes I draw. Eventhough I can, I don’t often draw in realistic style, because I think that it’s better to simply take a photo than to spend a lot of time to re-illustrate things in order to make them look like a photo. I know it’s not a good thought, that’s why I argree that I’m not a good artist ).

The mood of this illustration is happy and warm ^__^ That’s why I called it “warm winter”. And belive it or not, I draw it in one hot summer day >__<
